Stockingfield bridge.

13 December 2021

Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been acting as a consultant to Scottish canals to help with the development of the artwork that will go into the park and around the new bridge that is being built at Stockingfield in Maryhill in Northwest Glasgow. It’s been an honour to lead the community engagement in my old stomping ground of Maryhill. At first, I had to overcome an extreme reluctance to engage with this project as initially a huge Andy Scott sculpture had been proposed to the bridge which would’ve been transformational for both Maryhill and Glasgow. Now we have eight artists drawing inspiration from the community engagement and in many cases working with local communities to make artwork for the bridge and the area around it. Words cannot express how excited I am to watch these eight projects develop and see the talent that is involved. It’s also been interesting to work with the structural engineers and Balfour Beatty at this level. The project is due to complete mid 2022 and I can’t wait to see what happens.
